RESERVED Antique French Carved Antique Pine Crest or Plaque

We were extremely lucky to be in the right place at the right time - we were in Saumur in France and passed a massive renovation project; the building itself was being renovated and we were so grateful to be offered some of the decorative wooden pieces and panels to buy - before they followed the rest of the furniture into the fire.

This hand-carved solid Antique Pine pediment or central shield is in a dark colour and is designed to top a bedhead, door, cupboard or dresser / hatch it is made from solid wood and dates from around the mid 1800's . 
The carved decorations show long arm scrolls enwrapping a central cabochon with double dropped oak leaves and topped with a flame leaf motif ( some slight damage at the tip, see photos ).  The carving has been done by hand from one solid piece of Antique Pine, and the background areas are stipple finished with a small punched pattern - achieved by using a chisel with multiple points. The wood has a lovely dark sheen after many years of polish; this would be a fabulous decorative item or interior design piece and would, for instance, make a real statement incorporated into or above the surround of a large entrance doorway; the cabinetry of a modern Kitchen or in a Games Room.

Measuring 10.5"/27cm high by 16.5"/42cm wide and about 2" or 5cm deep, the item without packaging weighs 0.45 kilograms.
