Cadix Antique Plates - Set of Six Country Terre de Fer Plates - Late 1800's - Creuil et Montereau - Blue on White - PL1/022
Unusually, these beautiful old French Faience plates have their transfer pattern in blue; we have only seen pink as we have been travelling around the markets and dealers, This beautiful pale blue suits the floral design perfectly. Each 'CADIX' plate carries the blue stamp of the factory in addition to the impressed marks.
There is no doubt that these plates are very old; they were made in France, in the later part of the 1800's. The age is reflected in the colouring and wear to the glaze, which over the years has taken on a darker shading in places - the kind of patina that cannot be reproduced. Creil et Montereau was a famous producer of 'Terre de Fer' - Ironstone - the heavy clay of the area that gave the best, longest lasting finish to ceramics at the time.
