French Spa Water Glasses and Wicker Holders - Vichy Water Glass - Mineral Water Tasting Glass with Carrying Case - C242

We have collected these over the years from many visits to vide greniers, brocantes, 'pouce' and vide mason in France - all kinds of simple public sales held by villages or individuals to sell their unwanted or no longer used items. 'Vide Grenier' means 'empty loft' - whole villages will spend one day in the summer with tables outside, probably a wine tent and a sausage barbecue and have a fine time selling off their wares.

These wonderful antique glasses were used by travellers to the spa towns across France to sample the health-giving waters said to aid health and vitality. We have a Vichy water glass with a wicker case that has a leather carrying handle marked Vichy with a turn buckle fasting that is rare; there is a large Contrexeville crystal glass with handle ( sadly with damaged Glass ), Châtel Guyon, Plombieres les Bains and Le Mont-Dore ( transparent blue plastic beaker, not Glass ) plus two empty wicker cases ( see at front of main Photo ). The tightly woven carrying cases are like wicker but finer so probably a reed or plaited straw base; each carrying case has a leather or faux leather handle so it can be transported by hand - presumably with water still inside. The woven lids are held in place with a turn-buckle closure in brass or chrome.

This can be purchased as a collection or individually.  The containers  measure 7.75" high by 3" or 7.5cm wide for the small versions and 4.5" or 12cm high 3" or 7.5cm high the rest other than the Contrexeville that is 5" or 12.5cm wide and without packaging they weigh a total of 1200 grammes.

Your purchase will be very carefully packaged with recycled materials where possible and despatched via the Irish An Post postal service.
