Vintage French copper jam pans - pair of large copper pans - bassine a gellée - twin handled copper deep pans - copper catering pans - K404

We have a pair of almost identical French jam pans, fruit pans or bassine a gellée as the French would say. These are large pans made from medium gauge copper with cast steel handles riveted to each side of the pan. They date from the nineteen fifties or sixties. 

As you can see, we haven't fully polished the pans, other than a little tickle to leave some of the age and patina.......the brass handles have solid old rivets attaching them. These items came from the kitchen of a very old and large property in the city of Richelieu in central France. It was being totally gutted to be turned into apartments and we purchased a huge amount of the contents from the contracters.

The dimensions of each are 5" / 125mm high with a bowl diameter of 15" / 380mm. Each pan weighs a hefty 1.3kg or just under 3lb.

This item is certainly usable as is and we would have no problem doing so ourselves. Although you may like to have them tinned.
