EGYPTIAN Wooden Plate with Inlaid Mother of Pearl and Bone 8.25" VINTAGE Mid-Century Beautiful Decorated Islamic Style Plate - D147

A charming, shallow hand-made wooden bowl or plate that has been decorated in the finest small sections of mother of pearl and bone as mosaic inlay in a beautiful Islamic pattern. 

This is one of the nicest versions of these little platters we have seen. The plate dates from the nineteen forties and has been very well loved; with a small hook attached at the back it makes a beautiful display item. With small wear and chips to the varnish just along the inner rim the mosaic itself is in perfect condition. Looking at the rear the age is more apparent, and it is easy to see the way the wood of the main platter had been glued to form the original plank to work with. Hours of work have gone in to the crafting of this very striking piece; at over 80 years old the mosaic marquetry is as fresh today as it was when it was made. 

The diameter of this circular shallow bowl is 8.25" or 21cm, with a depth of 0.75" or 2cm. Without packaging, it weighs 250 grammes.
