French Silver Plated Sugar Cube / Pickle Pickers in Box - '50s French Silver - Silver Serving Utensil Marked 2GR SOB- K3/361
Unusual picker by a French Silversmith. In a true art deco style with good thickness of silver plating and highly engineered, we acquired this item from one of the many great antique emporiums in Nice. This is a wonderful quality find and would make a fantastic talking point on any table, be it for a dinner party, tea party or similar or for the ultimate cocktail set to add olives to Martinis or sugar cubes to Absinthe.
We often have a number of these in slightly different designs in our shop; we will stock only those in very good condition. This little Picker comes in a vintage box lined with ruched white satin. The box is not original to the pickers and has some very slight water staining on the lid but is a perfect fit. The box is hinged and has a brass classic clasp. The picker length is 5.25" or 13.5cm. In an exceptionally stylish Art Deco design, the picker has only two 'prongs' instead of the usual three; these are shaped like curved fingers, or perhaps a catching mitt. The maker's mark of SOB t is marked on one side and the 2G mark on the other denotes the thickness of the French Silver Plate. Inside, the 'Brevet' stamp indicates that the trademark had been applied for.
Sometimes we think the French are so clever ! These elegant French vintage Pickers from the 1960's are fun to use even if you don't take sugar. Push down on the end of the handle and the claws open smoothly to pick up your chosen item...... sugar cube..... Pickles ..... or something a bit more interesting......in their beautifully designed jaws. French Silver Plated - a work of art..
