Majestic French Beef Serving Platter - French Bull Carving or Serving Platter - Vintage French Table Platter - K3/378

A stunning French Vintage Carving Platter or Serving Platter. Styled as a bull with metal decoration at either side of the board forming carrying handles, this is a beautiful way to serve Roast Beef - or indeed any roasted meat joint. The solid wooden board is routed around the edge so that any roasted meat juices can drain to a liquid collection area and be used for gravy or sauce. The platter could be just as easily used for buffet style finger food - little sausages, pies, sausage rolls - all served with the enigmatic gaze of the decorative bull. At each end of the platter, or board, there are cast metal 'bull decorations'; on the left hand side is the head of the bull itself, looking indeed very majestic with his horns and curly locks. The detail on this part looks almost Egyptian in style. At the other side is the rump of the bull and the tail with a fine feathered-style ending - this is a great piece of kitchen decor.

The wood is finished with a satin smooth dark colour and the silver decorations are of cast metal with a chrome finish, attached to the board with rivets. A high quality Mid-Century item, this platter is Vintage and has been pre-owned. There are some signs of wear; a  surface scratch to the right hand side of the board; tiny marks from carving; a small (natural) surface crack in the liquid pool area. At the back, the board has two slotted holes to allow for screws to hold the board on the wall. A great item for display in the kitchen or dining area and a sure talking point when entertaining.

The board measures 22.5" (57cm) from nose to tail and is up to 10.25" (26cm) in depth. Laying flat on the table, the board with the decorative ends measures about one and a quarter inches at the highest point. Before any packaging is added, the assembled board weighs 1.85kg.
