Antique 12 Inch Coromandel Art Deco Crucifix with Bronzed Christ - French 1920s - Large Wall Hanging French Art Deco Style Crucifix - RC169
This a wonderful Art Deco styled French Crucifix from the early 1920's. The Coromandel wood of the cross has had very fine brass inlaid strapping applied to give the effect of a double cross. The Body of Christ, or Corpus Christi, is made of spelter and has been gilded with gold to give the effect of a bronze or golden figure, as has the INRI scroll.
The wooden cross has the very fine, tight and distinct, dark and light grain of the Coromandel Wood. With a soft sheen complemented by the glint of the inlaid brass, the Cross is 12" in height, 7.4" in width (35 x 18.5cm) and the body of Christ is 5.25" high and 3.5" wide (13.5 x 9cm). The total weight is 350 grams without any packaging. The Figure of Christ and the scroll are attached to the cross with four small metal nail- headed screws with tiny brass nuts that are fixed the entire way through the wood. There is an original brass metal loop attached to the back of the wooden cross, for wall mounting.
An antique piece that has been much loved; the piece is in extremely good, Fine Antique condition and has been given only a very light clean to leave it as completely original as possible.
