Burl or Burr Walnut 12" Art Deco Styled Crucifix- France Late 1800s - Very Fine Antique Wall Hanging French Bronze Crucifix - RC154

A very high quality Antique French Crucifix, dating from the late 1800's (late 19th Century). This piece is beautifully made from Walnut Wood, using a Burr or Burl Walnut veneer on the front of the Cross. The veneer facing is surrounded by a brass inlay 'frame', then the wood of the Cross is finely chamfered down on all sides to create a 3-D effect. Very fine work indeed with a finely detailed cast Bronze Corpus Christi or Body of Christ.

The Crucifix is in overall great condition with only a few small marks that show its passage through the years: some very slight blistering is evident at the point where the four mitred parts of the cross meet at the centred there is a little crazing to the veneer in places, but this is a beautiful, antique item, made by a true craftsman of his time.

The walnut cross has great patina and is 12" / 30cm in height, 6.25" / 16cm in width and the body of Christ is 4.5" / 11.5cm high with a width of  3.25" / 8.2cm and depth of 1.2" / 3cm; the total weight is 200 grams without any packaging. The solid bronze figure and the INRI scroll are attached to the cross with small bronze nails. There is a brass loop attached to the back of the wooden cross, for wall mounting.
