Gold Painted Christ on Art Deco Crucifix - 8"- French 1930s - Wall Hanging French Art Deco Style Burr / Burl Walnut Crucifix - RC164

This a wonderful Art Deco styled French Crucifix from the early 1930's.  Pale wood strapping very finely applied into the gorgeous rich brown burr walnut veneer gives the effect of banding in different widths, . The Body of Christ, or Corpus Christi, is made of spelter and has been painted in gold to give the effect of a bronzed or golden figure, as has the INRI scroll. 

The Figure of Christ is attached to the cross with three small metal nails that do not go the entire way through the wood. There is an original silver metal loop attached to the back of the wooden cross, for wall mounting.

The Burr (or Burl) Walnut wooden cross has a very fine, tight grain with a soft sheen and is 8" in height, 5.25" in width (20 x 13.5cm).  The body of Christ is 3.75" high and 2.75" wide (10.5 x 7cm); the total weight is 120 grams without any packaging. 

An vintage, nearly antique item that has been much loved; there is very minor crazing  to the varnish on the veneer that is caused by changes in temperature over the years. The Corpus is nicely designed with good detail and only very slight wear. Overall a fine Vintage French item in very good condition.
