Dating from 1960s France, this is a 'modern' crucifix; the Corpus or Body of Christ is just over 5" in height and is made of bronzed cast speltre. The Cross itself is made from a beautiful dark russet-coloured wood with a close grain, possibly mahogany; behind the head Jesus Christ a smaller 1.25" cross has been ebonised and a golden-colour double halo cut from copper is set into the wood. Set into the back of the cross there is a loop for hanging on the wall, but the cross could easily lean against a solid support. Marked in gold on the back of the cross is 'Made in France', a symbol containing 'B + F' '145-30' and 'model déposé (trademark applied for).
Overall dimensions of the cross: 11.75" high by 7" wide by 2" deep (30 x 18 x 5 cm), the weight unpackaged is 381 grammes. The very simple lines and colours of this crucifix make it a striking and memorable example.
