Twelve Inch Art Deco Crucifix - France 1920s - Medium Wall Hanging French Patinated Spelter Corpus Christi - RC149
A simply designed Crucifix , twelve inches in height. Made from solid teak in a plain style, the Crucifix has been finished at each point of the cross with a metal cover, attached with small metal pins and decorated with little painted squares in an Art Deco style. The silver metal that has been used has some fine rust spots showing that would be easy to clean away with care to avoid damaging the paint. The wood has a very fine grain and a soft sheen and is quite heavy; the Body of Christ is cast in silver Spelter and has a dark patination that has been polished away in places to show the gleam of the silver colour underneath. Above the Head of Christ is a scroll in a vertical position with the inscription 'INRI'.
The wooden cross is very smooth to hold and is 12" in height and just over 6.25" in width (30.5 x 16cm). The body of Christ is 5.25" high and 3.75" wide (13.25 x 9.5cm). The total weight is 300 grams without any packaging. The spelter figure is attached to the cross with three rusty nails. There is a brass loop attached to the back of the wooden cross by a brass fixing, so the Crucifix is ready for wall mounting.
