French 1930s Advertising Hanging Sign - Champagne Mousseux

Only one sign of this type is available; made of thick, embossed and printed card with a leather-effect finish, this rectangular sign advertises 'Grand Vin Mousseux' - a French Sparkling Wine; this particular one made using the Method Champenoise. . The Champagne Method (also known as methode champenoise) is to use bottles to store the just-finished wine that have a small amount of sugar and yeast (liqueur de tirage) added to re-start the wine into action again. This refermenting yeast gives out carbon dioxide as part of the process, but now it's trapped inside the bottle.

This very classical hanging sign would have been found in a small bar or café, advertising the best wine on offer - and would now be happy to grace any kitchen, dining area or home bar to show that the hosts on residence of people of great taste!

The thick card is of good quality and being of about ninety years of age, it does show little signs of age, small marks from handling. But overall this is in extremely good vintage condition. The original string is still attached, to be used for hanging on the wall. The dimensions of 12.75" x 6.25" (32.5 x 16cm) - a great size for a busy kitchen or bar.
