From circa. late 1890 we have this gorgeously aged photograph with a beautifully decorative wooden and plaster frame. The original glass is still in place, protecting the photograph of this wonderful French Lady from the Loire Valley Region. She has a resigned expression, and appears to have spent more than one hundred bemused years residing in this ornately decorated  wood and plaster frame with gilt highlight, so we are not going to move her. The photo can easily be replaced, or covered with a different image - unless perhaps she might be 'adopted' ... who knows, she may be a treasured portrait photograph of a "long-lost French relative".... we have a wall in our home full of such items that visitors immediately presume are our relations.

In place for many, many years, the photograph has become dusty behind the glass; it has never been removed and we have left it intact. With some small damages and chipping to the plasterwork, the frame has the expected patina of its age. The photograph is beautiful; the lady in the image is wearing very simple but striking jewellery/jewelry, most likely the very best she has. In the usual manner of photography in that time, the photographer has highlighted some lines and shadows in the portrait. The plaster frame is in completely original condition, still with the original printed/embossed paper backing with a water stain and the hooks and cord are still in place.

Overall dimensions are 20.5" x 17.5" and the unpackaged weight is 2.4kg. An imposing image that would draw the eye in any setting.
