Late 19th Century Gilt Bronze Profile - The Head of Christ - Art Nouveau style -  Superb Free Standing Plaque - RP116

A very interesting and unusual French Artist-Signed antique cast bronze plaque of the head of Christ with a hinged back stand plus a small metal loop for wall hanging.  The hair, crown of thorns and beard of Christ have been gilded to emphasise these areas and give an extra three dimensionality. The artist has hand-punched his initials on the back: L F and a 2. It is quite likely that this is a prototype from the factory of Louis and François Moreau.

This is a very nice study of the Profile of Christ with superb detail given to the beard and hair and also the Crown of Thorns. The back stand is a separate bar with a split foot to hold the plaque upright; the face of the plaque has had the base bent forward so that the whole item is well supported and stands steadily. Beside the support at the back, a small metal loop has been added so that the plaque could alternatively be hung on a wall.

This antique plaque is freestanding and is 8" or 20cm high and 5.5" or 14cm wide and is 7.5" or 17cm deep when the stand is fully open / 1.25" or 3cm deep if simply hung from the ring. The plaque is solid bronze and weighs 1lb or 0.55kg
