Superb Pair of Antique French Gilt-Bronze Door Handles - LOUIS XVI - Rose design - Heavy Cast Bronze - D133
This beautiful pair of handles have a really nice golden colour that has only improved with age. Originally fitted to a pair of French Chateau interior doors, these not-so-little beauties would now, without doubt, add that special touch of luxury to to any home. In the style of Louis XVI, the design of the handles incorporates a tiny rose in the centre of each handle 'lift'; possibly they were designed for a the Mistress or Madame of the Chateau - for the lady's boudoir.
They are in a very classical French 'Louis XVI' style and shape and are around 6.25" /16cm wide, about 4" / 10cm high and 1.5" / about 4cm deep, when the handles are laid flat. With some of the original gilding still visible on the front, the back of each handle shows the original colour of the gilt - a light tone of gold - that would have been great talking pieces for the original owners!
The pair together weigh 0.6kg / 1.3lb; these handles are designed to be installed horizontally and pull upwards to use and then lay back flat after use. Superb items to use in an upgrade or remodelling project. Items of quality like these don't come along all that often so we were extremely happy to be able to salvage them from the dismantled interior doors.
