UNIQUE Stunning Hand Carved Face of Mary - The Madonna - Mid Century Carved Wood - Solid Oak Religious Plaque - RP114
An ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE piece of craftsmanship in carved hardwood - relief hand carved from two seamlessly joined solid oak panels. Although not signed it has been created by a master of his art:- the folds in the headdress are perfect and almost look real, the facial features are carved in a minimalist mid century manner but the expression is very symbolic of Mary gazing down at the body of her son, Jesus Christ, as in Michelangelo's Pietà.
This Mid-Century solid Oak plaque comes from France where it was crafted in the Loire valley Region. On the top centre back of the plaque there is an original bored hole to use for hanging and additionally a brass hanging fixture has been stapled securely in place.
Dimensions are 13” / 33cm high, 9.5” / 24cm wide and 1.5” / 4cm deep. Without any packaging the carving weighs 1 kg.
