Vintage French Tapestry - Rural Romantic Scene - 1950s - Pure Cotton / Linen - French Tapestry  - Medium Sized Wall Hanging Tapestry - H1/46

A Vintage French example of a thick scenic Tapestry fabric. Machine Tapestry from the house of Jules Pansu of Paris - the bucolic scene in beautiful pastel colours shows two Shepherdesses, whiling away the time with their friends; a French Chateau is in the distance behind them and the sheep are resting contentedly at their feet, watched over by the sheepdog. A little boy is spying around the trunk of a tree at one young couple who only have eyes for each other. A little bird is in a cage above a group - the Shepherdess holds a sheep in her arm and listens to the music being played on a set of pipes by a young man. Idyllic summertime, woodlands, flowers, music and love, what more is there to ask for.

The factory started in 1878; this early machine-made Jules Pansu Tapestry has previously been framed and used; the frame has been removed and the item professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The house of Pansu was formed in 1878 and is still in production today, often creating images of very modern art in their age old tapestry fashion. On the back of the tapestry, the words 'Made in France' and 'JP' have been embroidered in black thread.

Made in France in the nineteen fifties, this would be a fabulous Vintage gift for an embroidery or tapestry crafter; or for someone who enjoys the romantic style of the 1700 - 1800s. The tapestry is made of fine coloured linens tightly woven to be used as a wall hanging. The edges are unfinished except for the base of the weave, so it is ready to be framed,  mounted or hung in place. A very pretty item for display.

Measurements are 28" or 70cm high" by 60" or 150cm wide and the unpackaged weight is 0.7 kg.
