Reserved for Kevin Quartz or marble Wall Crucifix Holy Water Font - French Bénitier - Solid Brass and White Marble / Quartz Holy Water Font - RB104
A beautifully made and finished Religious French Holy Water Font, or Bénetier, dating from around 1900 in France. This is a very heavy, high quality item; the figure of Christ in a silver finish is laid on a gilt cross with a wood-grain effect, below his feet rests the ornate gilt font or Vasque with a decorated hinged lid. The representation of the Crucifixion is surrounded by an ornate thin gilt frame. The whole item rests on a cross of solid white marble or quartz 1cm thick. The entire assembly then rests on a bed of solid brass, slightly larger than the marble, giving the effect of a brass frame. On the reverse, the assembly is held together by three heavy brass screws and there is a brass loop on the top fixing to allow for secure wall hanging. Generally a font is used in the Catholic Faith where, in the home, it is placed by the entrance doorway or beside the head of the bed.
