French Vintage Wall Tapestry - Pure Wool Pastoral Scene Tapestry - Medium Sized Tapestry with a Pair of Pink Flamingoes - H1/30

A Great Vintage example of a fine woollen tapestry wallhanging.  The design shows two pink flamingos and a number of other birds. The Flamingoes are standing in a wooded area at the edge of a river  - a body of water that is central to the design. Behind them is a bridge over the river and further back in the distance, a fortress or castle with hills as a backdrop. Sharing the wooded shade there is a pair of pheasants, the male with a long tail, and on the other side, a pair of ducks on the riverbank. Another bird is taking flight, up out of the shrubbery. No human beings are in this tranquil scene.

The tapestry is in Blue, Pink, Beige, and a Russet Red, with a 'floral frame' design around the image. This piece is a complete work (not a piece cut from a larger length) and would look lovely hung on any wall via a pole attached to the heavy 1.5" cotton / linen banding along the top; the fabric would usually be rolled over the pole and held in place with small tacks - and the pole would then become invisible. (There are some old rust marks on the banding tape from previous use).

Made in France in the last Mid-Century, this would be a fabulous Vintage Gift for an embroidery or tapestry crafter.  The peaceful rural scene is stunning, in perfect condition and would be the perfect finishing decor piece for a room with a classical feel. It would be advisable to hang this item out of direct sunlight as this would fade the colours which are still quite vibrant.

Measurements are 29.5" / 76cm high, 56" / 142cm wide not including the strip across the top for fixing to a wooden or similar baton for hanging. The unpackaged weight is just 800 grammes.

Your purchase will be very carefully packaged (with recycled materials where possible) and despatched via the Irish An Post.
