Antique Parisian Bevelled Glass Jewellery Box - La Madelaine in Paris - French Jewellery Display Case c.1900 - J2/31
A very beautiful item, found at a market in Paris it displays one of the famous Paris landmarks on the lid, L'Eglise de la Madeleine, or La Madeleine ( this could be very carefully removed should you wish ). A famous church building in Paris, it hosted the funeral of Frédérick Chopin......and later, that of the French favourite, Jonny Halliday.
This craftsman-made case is made from thick bevel-edged glass on five of the six sides, encased in ormolu and brass decoration. It is in overall good condition with the faded original yellow silk domed cushioning to the base and lining the inner lid. The hinge for the lid is completely intact, as is the curled clip at the front to hold the lid in place.
This is is 3.25" / 8cm wide, 2.75" / 7cm high and 2.5 / 6.5cm deep and weighs 150grams
