RARE Mid 1800's Bronze Medallion - ANTIQUE - The Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart - Edmund Penin Religious Medallion - RM1155
We have found two very rare large antique medallions, one by Ludovic Penin of Lyon in France so from between 1859 - 1865, the other from perhaps ten years later by Edmund Penin and marked Penin - Poncet, These high quality medallion features both The Sacred Heart on one face and Our Lady of The Sacred Heart on the other. Rare indeed to find the two images on one single larger than normal medallion; this is cast in solid bronze, with an eyelet for suspension, both would have been made in the works in Lyon. Ludovic Penin (1830-1868), was a Lyonnais engraver and medallist, accorded the title 'Graveur Pontifical' by Pope Pius IX in 1864. The medal has a beautiful aged patina which we have not polished off. The medal measures 1.25" or 3.25cm in diameter and weighs 12 grammes. A wonderful antique Catholic Faith devotional item. They came from a convent not far from Lyon and both show signs of ware and age as can be seen on the photos but they are fantastic pieces of religious history.
These are real collectors items. These are priced indevidualy and this listing is for the Edmund Penin version.
