A stunning still life in the Flemish style by renown artist Gérard Basiletti born 1947 died 2008.
This is one of those paintings you do not mind if it does not sell as we would be happy to have it in our collection

Called either The Apple or "Dead Nature" as both are written on the reverse. The painting carries the eyes around from the golden chalice half covered by the dropped curtain onto the carafe of wine, the green grapes still with leaves and finally to the apple. Very simple but very very beautiful. On close inspection it seems this image is an over painting of what was an image not up to the artists usual high standards. It is a modern take on the Flemish masters paintings with its dark and moody background that gives this work its fantastic impact.

Gérard Basiletti was born in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in 1947. In 1969, he took courses at their Famous School of Arts. After many lean years, his paintings were recognised and rewarded in particular in 1980 during his first international fair so very shortly after this great painting that was brushed in 1978. The same year, he met Salvador Dali for whom Gérard had the greatest admiration and his painting was undoubtedly inspired by him. In 1982, he won a bronze medal at the New York Coliseum and in 1988 was decorated with Arts and Letters. Over the years he developed his technique and forged a unique style. He died at the age of 60 at the end of an artistic career from which more than 2000 paintings were born.

In 2009, a tribute was paid to him on the occasion of the Biennale d'art contemporain de Charquemont. The city of Fontaine-lès-Dijon gave the artist's name to the main room of the La Source gallery in 2012.

Also a sculptor, two of his creations can be seen in Montécheroux (in the center of the village) and Dijon (courtyard of the Hôtel de Frasans). Works by Gérard Basiletti are preserved in the following places: Museum of the Pince de Montécheroux – Town hall of Montécheroux – Gesellschaftshaus in Kirn (Germany) – Town hall of Kirn (Germany).

Measuring 14" (350mm) high by 12" (305mm) wide and 2.2" (60mm) deep, the painting is oil on  stretched canvas with information to both etc rear of the canvas and stretcher. The framed image weighs 700 grammes without any packaging.  The frame shows a few chips but nothing that detracts from the image.
