Original French Oil Painting from 1960s - The Water Mill in Blazac France - Vintage French Oil Painting on Canvas in Original Frame - FW2/37

By a French artist named Brira Hire, this painting is from the 1960's in France and is a depiction of the Water Mill at Blazac, the "Moulin de Balzac" near to Azay le Rideau in the Indre et Loire department of France. Painted in a Naive or Folk style, the painting uses a mix of very straight lines and sweeping brushstrokes. The muted blues, greys and greens of the paints used give the image an overall sense of peace and tranquility. The artist has put many tiny details into the image giving it plenty of interest. A finely executed oil painting on canvas, the location is written on to the wooden stretcher at the back. The frame is original to, and is probably earlier than, the painting and has signs of wear; it is 2.75 inches in depth and the frame surrounding the painting measures 2.5 inches. In addition there is an inner frame, giving the illusion of a white mount of half an inch all round.

There are original hooks on the reverse of the frame to attach a cord for hanging. A great original painting for somebody looking for real art work without the flounces; it would suit many modern styles of interior and would make an interesting interior design item. Today the mill is known as the "Moulin de Pont de Ruan".

The framed painting weighs 1.7kg without any packaging. It measures 25.5" or 65cm wide by 19" or 48cm high and 2.25" or 6cm deep.
