Antique French Carved Neo Gothic Tracery - Carved Gothic Tracery Panels - Gothic Revival Decoration from the 1800s - AQ68

We were extremely lucky to be in the right place at the right time - we were in Saumur in France and passed a massive renovation project; the building itself was being renovated and we were so grateful to be offered some of the decorative wooden pieces and panels to buy .... to salvage them before they followed the rest of the furniture into the fire. These hand-made tracery panels are part of that day's treasure.

They were produced in the Neo Gothic or Gothic Revival style and unfortunately that means they were introduced to the building in the 19th century as an addition rather than the 16th century when the building was constructed by command of the infamous Cardinal Richelieu (who designed the entire original centre of the City of Richelieu to house his friends and associates).

We have two slightly different length pairs of Antique Carved Oak Decorative Panels/Trims or Tracery plus one longer single item; all are made from Dark Oak and date from the mid to late 1800's. The four smaller sections have a curved design while the longer, singe piece has straight sides to the triangular pattern. Looking at them all together, one could be forgiven for thinking they are all the same and indeed they could all be used together with the longer panel as the central piece flanked by the others.  They had been used as a part of the decorative moulding and trim for a wooden cabinet or rood screen in a Private Chapel.  
As renovation pieces they would add a touch of class to a remodel or revitalisation of a Snug, Nook or Office in the home. 

They are all the same height Measuring 3.1"/79mm high, the single longer piece is 215"/535mm wide the longer pair 13.5"/345mm and the small pair 12.5"/318mm wide with all five being 0.75"/18mm deep, the five without packaging weigh around 900 grammes. They have been hand cut and carved, then given a darker stain which suited the original cabinetry.  A lovely collection, the style is not too fussy but with a classic elegance.
