Ceramic Madonna and Child - Mid 21st Century from Belgium - Religious Wall Art in Modern Style - Ceramic Christian Artefact - RP112

An interesting depiction of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, holding her child - The Madonna and Child. This fine piece of modern ceramic art comes from Belgium and dates from the 1970s. The very simple sinuous lines make it a striking piece of decoration. The background colour of the plaque is a glossy dark mushroom beige with the design of Mary and Jesus in relief and the lines of the Mother and Child are matt, so form a great contrast with the background both visually and physically.

The back of the work is stamped 'Bree Belgium' and 'A57' which may be a pattern number. A lovely vintage item from Belgium with a distinctly modern style, this would suit most home decor styles. The wall hanging is in good vintage condition with some small signs of wear and a slight firing fault in the glaze at the top left of the image. There is a small chip at the back (not visible when hung). With two holes in the back to take hooks or screws for wall mounting, this lovely image would look great on the wall - but with its clean lines and tactile shape, it could also make an interesting item on a coffee table or side table. Bree Ceramiek, from the 1970s is is a rather unknown but excellent small pottery in Belgium with remarkable design flair. An investment piece for the future perhaps.

The Plaque measures 11" or 28cm long, 3.25" or 8.5cm deep and stands at just about 5/8" or 1.5cm high. The weight without any packaging is 298 grams.
