PAIR of Antique French Carved Oak Panels - French Decorative Carved Furniture - Opposing Panels from the late 1800s - AQ59

These two romantically decorated opposing panels are gorgeous and different, they were retrieved from the furnishings of a French Chateau in the Loire Valley in France. In a previous life, they have been part of a large piece of antique oak furniture, a large dresser of the kind beloved by the French in the 1800's. The dresser had fallen into disrepair when the (then) owners began to think it was "too old fashioned'. The building itself is being renovated and we were lucky enough to be offered the two panels to buy before they followed the rest of the furniture into the fire.

These tall thin panels are made from French Oak and date from the late 1800's. The carved decorations show fruits and leaves in an Arts and Craft or Art Deco stylised form, starting with an apple at the top followed by cherries, a peach, grapes and bananas. The carving has been done by hand and the background is finished in a small punched pattern. As these two panels have been part of a furniture item they have a mark where they were "framed" into the piece, which is under 0.5"/or 1cm all round. The wood has a lovely dark oak sheen after many years of polish; these would be a superb decorative item or interior design piece; they would, for instance, look fabulous incorporated into the cabinetry of a modern Kitchen or dining nook.

Measuring 28.5"/ 72cm high by 8.75"/ 22cm wide and just under 0.5" / 1cm deep; the pair without packaging weighing 1.35kg or 3lb.
