Carved Mother of Pearl or Nacre Medallion Cross or Pendant - Carved Bethlehem Crucifix- Filigree Crucifix - RJ07
A super little antique carved Nacre or Mother of Pearl Crucifix pendant with chain; this chain is not original, it s a silver plated chain marked 'Sarah Cov GB' and has a small bead adornment. The pendant comes in a little black 'velvet-style' drawstring gift bag.
This fantastically detailed carved cross is carved to the rear with Bethlehem. The open filigree work is amazingly detailed, they come in three layers with the back being almost a crown of thorns the next a stylised tree and the centre a flower or sunburst, all important religious symbolism.
The pendant dates from the early to mid 1900's during the time of peace in the Holy Land.
In perfect condition, the cross itself is a 1.75" or 45mm by 1.25" or31mm, the thickness is around0.25" or 5mm. The silver chain is 16" or 40.5cm in length.
