Antique Taxidermy Sandpiper  - 1930's - French Antique - Juvenile Actitus Hypoleucos on Driftwood Perch - TX78

French Antique Taxidermy from the 1930's - a Juvenile of the Sandpiper family, a small European Wader with the typical juvenile plumage. The common sandpiper is a small-ish wader with contrasting brown upperparts and pale underparts. It habitually bobs up and down, known as 'teetering', and has a distinctive flight with stiff, bowed wings. Its presence is often betrayed by its three-note call which it gives as it flies off. This bird is perched on a simple driftwood stand.

This specimen was part of a large collection that we acquired from a closed museum; the bird dates from the 1930's but the perch is more recent, c.1960. The birds were kept away from sunlight but not fully covered by glass. Standing at 7.5" or 19.5cm high (including the perch), by 4" or 10cm wide and 7" or 17cm deep, the bird weighs 156 grammes without any packaging.
