Beautiful Vintage Italian Taxidermy -  Hoopoe - Upupa Epops - from 1969 mounted on wooden stand - Wall Mounting - TX81

This is a lovely little intelligent looking specimen, dating from the nineteen sixties, coming from Italy. This example of the Hoopoe - from the woodpecker family - has been wall mounted in 1969 ( there is a pencil inscription on the back of the wood mount ) but should you wish we can change this to a sympathetic freestanding mount.

The bird stands 8" / 200mm high inc the branch. 9" / 230mm wide and 5.5" / 140mm deep. The weight without packaging is 250g.

We love these birds and spent hours watching them come into our garden in France. The Mohican  Style head feathers would come up as they landed announcing their presence to us, the plumes would then come down as they would search the garden for edible treats.

Hoopoes are colourful birds found across Africa, Asia, and Europe, notable for their distinctive "crown" of feathers. Three living and one extinct species are recognised, though for many years all of the existing species were lumped as a single species—Upupa epops. But now it is recognised that we have three distinct species, this being the European version.

The item will be carefully packed ( if possible using recycled materials ) and shipped using the Irish Postal system An Post or a reputable courier service.
