Irish Statue of Mary - Chalkware Polychrome - Virgin Mary - Coloured Freestanding Cathlic Statue of Mother Mary c.1900s - RS114
Beautifully made, antique plaster statue of The Virgin Mary mother of Christ, made in Ireland at the start of the 20th Century. The statue is freestanding and measures 16" or 41cm in height, including the coloured plinth and is approx. 5.5" or 14cm wide and 4" or 10cm deep. This little statue is mainly self-coloured so mostly white, with gold on the rosary and cross she is holding, along with gold decoration to her clothing that also still hold a hint of blue within the folds. It was acquired from a convent in East Cork that was clearing out old unused items prior to a move. It had probably been in the lady Chapel or Alter for Our Lady.
As you travel the roads and lanes of Ireland you will see lots of beautifully statues of Our Lady the Blessed Virgin as most clear water springs are dedicated to her and called Lady Wells. Although most of these are far larger this is a wonderful example and although a little chipped around some edged she is still serene and beautiful, she would lend an atmosphere of piece to any room.
Your purchase will be carefully packed in recycled wrappings where possible and despatched by An Post or Courier Service.
