Sacred Heart - Large Irish Plaster Freestanding Statue of Christ by G. Pacini & Sons Dublin c.1936s - RS102

A beautifully made, antique plaster statue of The Sacred Heart, made in Dublin, Ireland at the start of the 20th Century. The statue is freestanding and measures 21.5" or 55cm in height, including the coloured plinth and is approx. 8" or  20cm wide and 5.25" or 13cm deep.
It is clearly marked with the makers mane to the rear of the plinth along with other numbers to the underside and back of the toga.

G Pacini & Sons Ran a business at 112 Lower Clanbrassil Street Dublin between 1936 - 1946
according to the local business registry that listed their business as 'Statuary' - Appears in separate section, under 'Manufacturers of Irish Goods', following the Trades' Directory, in 1936. Re-appears under 'Figure Maker and Moulder' in main section of the Dublin Trades' Directory in 1946.
It has lived most of its life in a side alter at a local convent that has now closed.
This is a humble representation of Jesus Christ and He is looking down at the ground before Him. The decoration is in bright colours (termed polychrome); the red colour of His robe has held well over the years although it has been subject to some knocks and scratching. There is very little actual damage to the statue but it does show signs of refurbishment, it is only the paintwork.  Some of the highlights to the robe originally in a gold colour have darkened over the years giving a hint to the true age of this work. His hands, clearly pierced, are pointing to The Sacred Heart. A lovely artefact, a hand-painted religious figure beloved of those of the Catholic Faith. This is an early original statue, originally very well painted and not a later copy.

The plinth is coloured in green and brown to represent the earth and grass. It weighs a hefty 3.35kg or 7.5lb without any packaging. The condition is 'good antique condition for its age', with chips and scratches to the paint colour as mentioned, but no more than would be expected. The wear on this statue gives the impression of it having been loved and handled by many.
