UNIQUE 1600s Antique Church Salvage - Christ with the Cross at Golgotha - Crucifixion of Christ Late Medieval - Antique Carved Wood - CS104

A UNIQUE piece of rustic craftsmanship in carved hardwood originally from a European church. It depicts the crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha with three followers at the base of the cross. Believed to be his mother Mary along with possibly Mary Magdalen and St John, there are remnants of the original painted finish, that has over the years been rubbed away. the nails used at the junctions are hand made and fragile and so we have left the right arm of Jesus slightly away from his body due to its fragility. It was found in three pieces, in a box by the guys who were doing the reclamation of the Church fittings before it was converted to a home.  They offered it to us as they knew we could put it back together again in our workshop. The patina of the carving shows signs of its history being early medieval or at least early 1600. This is a totally unique and irreplaceable piece from c15th/16th century or possibly even older. Here is a chance to become the custodian of a small piece of European Ecclesiastical History.
An unusual piece on their item is a pair of what look like chicken feet on the base, during the medieval period they were seen as something to bring good luck, We cannot say they were original to the piece or added later by a later owner who had more that one belief or religion. In overall very good condition for its age with only small signs of damage to the feet of the three statues.

Dimensions are 17” / 430mm high, 11.5” / 292mm wide and 3” / 75mm deep. Without any packaging the carving weighs 1.36 kg. This is a heavy item that may take extra time for transit.
