Grey Heron - Irish Mid Century Taxidermy - first half of 1900's - Elegant Water Bird Professionally Treated -  Vintage Taxidermy - TX/72

This is probably the best Vintage example of the Irish Taxidermy style - of a Majestic Taxidermied Grey Heron from the first half of the nineteen hundreds; early Mid century Irish.

The Grey Heron is a large, long-legged predatory wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but some populations from the more northern parts migrate southwards in autumn.

This is a particularly fine Irish example from around the late nineteen forties.  The way it has been prepared and styled as a freestanding specimen shows a large degree of experience and professionalism and knowledge of the bird. This beautiful Heron is mounted on what appears to be a piece of bog oak, which is an excellent heavy base for this example of a large bird. The positioning of the neck is just as we see in nature, along the coastline in front of our home as the bird waits to strike at its prey.

It is in very good condition as it has previously been within a large glass case together with other examples since its creation.

Dimensions :- 700mm / 28” tall 580mm / 23" from beak to tail and  Bog Oak wooden base that is 225mm 9” wide. The bird and mount together weigh 3.1 kg or just under 7lb without any packaging.

Your purchase will be very carefully packaged using recycled materials wherever possible, and despatched via the Irish An Post service.
