Irish Taxidermy Starling  - 1960's Vintage Taxidermy - European Starling ( Sturnus Vulgaris ) on Ebonised Perch - TX1/75

Irish Taxidermy from the 1960's - a Starling, or European Starling. Very rarely do you get to appreciate the beauty of this fairly 'common' bird, but this Vintage bird has been completely cleaned showing the multiple colours to the best advantage, the legs and beak superbly polished and lichen added to the stand, completely rejuvenating the piece.  The bird is perched on a simple ebonised piece of branch on a wooden stand. This guy has the most beautiful iridiscent colours that change as you move around - from blue to green to aqua. Gorgeous.

Starlings are conspicuous and widespread in the British Isles including the Republic of Ireland, occurring everywhere except for the highest parts of the Scottish Highlands. They are most abundant in southern England and are more thinly distributed in upland areas with moorland. The starling is still one of the UK's commonest garden birds. In winter, huge roosts can be found in plantations, reedbeds and city centres. 

We have our own family of these in our garden / reserve living in one of the houses we provided for them. They are mischevious and clever and make really rather exotic sounds!

 This bird has been kept away from sunlight and not fully covered by glass it is very clean and bright. Standing at 8" or 20cm high (including the perch), by 3.5" or 9cm wide and 6" or 15cm deep, the bird weighs 200 grammes without any packaging. 

Your purchase will be carefully packaged in recycled wrapping where possible and despatched via the Irish An Post.
