1903 Elkington Silver / Christopher Dresser Silver Plate Spoon Warmer

€425.00 €495.00 Approx $453.58, £364.18

Code: AQ1/92

A rare item indeed - made in 1903 by the British firm Elkington & Co, this Edwardian Silver Plate Spoon warmer has the design attributed to Christopher Dresser. This piece may have been commissioned as part of a larger service as the ribbon design around the body of the warmer is more ornate than usual. The handle is in the very distinctive Dresser style.

The spoon warmer was present in every affluent household in Victorian and Edwardian times in order that when the servants served from platters in the dining room, the food would not go cold on the silver spoons. The lower reserve of the warmer can be filled with boiling water and the end seed by the finely engineered screw stopper. Please warmer was then carried using the black ebony handle, with the spoons sitting in the upper chamber, nice and warm.

The plate has some small areas on the underside where the plate is lifting slightly as can. be seen on the photos. This is on the underside only and not visible when the warmer is being used. This is a rare and costly item, but reasonable offers will be considered. Extra photographs are available on request.
