French Bread Platter - Thirteen inch diameter Hand Carved French Board

A solid wood hand-carved French Bread Platter or serving board from the 1970's. The platter has been beautifully hand-turned and finished with a wide border for decoration. In carved relief on the border, the wording reads "Donnez nous Notre Pain Quotidien" - "Give us our Daily Bread" - words from the Lord's Prayer. Bread Boards and platters in this rustic farmhouse style are still used today in many French homes as well as  in high-end restaurants to give that family-friendly, country kitchen feel.

This vintage bread board from the Nineteen Seventies shows little sign of use. It was hand-made in the 1970s and has been used as a serving board but more often just for kitchen decoration, resulting in the extremely good condition that we find it in today. The carving of the words is in a mix of Capital letters and smaller letters (majuscule et minuscule) in style; at the foot of the circular board is a small relief carving of wheat ears to complete the decoration.

The platter is in a round shape of 13" diameter and it weighs 0.7 kg without any packaging. On the back, small brass triangular fixing has been nailed on with two pins so that the board can hang on a nail when not being used.
