Dimensions:
An impressive, classical pair of Mid-Century fire dogs or andirons from France; these are made of solid bronze in an imperial style and have the solid metal support brackets permanently attached. They are designed with a small grip at the front so that they can easily be lifted upwards to shake free any collecting wood ash, below which a corresponding grip-shape surrounds the face of a lion with acanthus leaves above. The two legs again imitate the shape of the grip and are decorated with leaves and berries; the central image is a small flower surrounded by little dots, which is most probably a part of a family crest. We have seen similar items with far less detail in the casting - those are probably reproductions of the originals such as this.
The fire dogs weigh a hefty 1.95 kilograms each, so will be sent by parcel service.
