PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR TAXIDERMY SPECIMENS ARE ALL VINTAGE OR ANTIQUE; UNLIKE MANY ADVERTISED ON ETSY; WE ABSOLUTELY DO NOT SUPPORT THE IMMORAL TRADE IN NEWLY KILLED BIRDS.

The European Common Buzzard, and what a beauty; nothing common about this specimen. Dwellers of woodland habitats, these wonderful creatures are thankfully making a remarkable comeback after being wrongly persecuted for years. The Buzzard diet is small mammals and rodents; their favourite morsel is the field vole. These birds breed around the edges of woodland, but generally hunt over open spaces looking for mice, rabbits, worms and even carrion; farmers have mistakenly thought they were a threat to their stocks which was never the case. Buzzards mate for life, and the male mating ritual ("showing off"!!) is a fantastic aerobatic display that is referred to as "The Roller Coaster".

This example has been professionally remounted as the old large log mount he originally had was extremely heavy and showing signs of infestation. The bird has been deep frozen (this kills off any 'unwanted visitors') before cleaning and remounting on this driftwood base from our own beach.

This lovely specimen originated in France, dating from the early 1900s, was mounted as a museum piece to show off the size and plumage, and indeed it does this very well. Although it can be seen from his plumage that this bird is not a new specimen, we can find no defects despite his great age.Dimensions are height 15” / 38cm, 15" wide and 15" deep. It weighs 0.821 grammes.
