English 1955 Drop Down Map of South America - 1950s

We have acquired a collection of old school-room maps, this particular one shows South America along with the Galapagos and Falkland Islands. This example dates from 1955, printed by George Philips and Son of London for learning establishments in Northern Ireland. The map still has the original wood attached to top and bottom and although in overall good shape it does have a few tiny holes, slight discolouring and areas of separation from the cloth backing. Produced over seventy years ago with no particular intention to preserve it, this is in remarkably good vintage condition. It would make a striking statement in any room be it left as is, framed, or attached to the wall with a perspex cover for protection.

It is very large being almost six feet high (180cm) and 4 feet wide (117cm) and as an interior design piece it would be very hard to miss. A hugely interesting, vintage item for anyone with a passion for travel or geography and a very nostalgic aide when tracing the ever-changing lines and boundaries of different parts of the world - and discover how much our geographical knowledge has increased over the last seventy years. The weight without any packaging is 1.27 kg.
