A Black Forest Carving from a single piece of a light-weight dark wood; this hand carved Holy Water Font was part of a collection -  we were very fortunate to be invited to purchase from the estate of a lifelong collection - that of a well renowned French Religious Antiquities Expert. Delicately hand carved in a beautiful and decorative style, this wall-hanging Holy Water Font is 10.25" (26cm) in length and has a brass hanging loop inserted at the top - an extra quarter of an inch. In a semi-rustic style, starting from the base, the first decoration is an inverted ivy leaf that is underneath the Font itself - the stoup. The stoup is a deeply hollowed round bowl with in outer diameter of 2.25" (6cm) with the outer sides shaped and carved with grooves and other decorative marks. From the back of the stoup, the ivy continues from both sides, with tendrils, leaves and berries around the cross until it reaches the top.The back of the piece is completely smooth except for a circular indentation which was probably made by a clamp of some kind during the carving process.

This is a lovely item for the home, beautifully presented and a small art object in its own right, that would make a gorgeous gift.

Dimensions are: Height 10.5" inc. the brass loop; width at widest point is 3.5" and depth is just  touch over 2" (26.5 x 9 x 5cm); without any packaging the font weighs under 100 grams.
