Pair of Vintage French Boxed Bird Calls - Moor hen and Sparrow - Mimic Bird Calls - Vintage Ornithological Bird Calls - C2/216

A superb pair of Vintage French Bird Calls or Bird Call Decoys. These are both boxed and in original extremely good condition with instructions. They do not appear to have been used, just handled. These would make a fantastic gift for a nature lover, bird lover or collector of vintage hunting items.

Both of the boxes are made of a light pine with a sliding lid and a picture of the bird on one end. Each box measures approx. 3" x 3" x 5.5" (7 x 7 x 14cm). The two together weigh around 200 grammes.

The call for the Moorhen is a carved wooden call, that the caller blows in to, like a whistle. In 'as new' condition it lies in the original box on a bed of raffia with the instructions alongside.
The Sparrow call is made from a sewn leather pouch with some slightly resistant filling and a bell at the mouth; it is hand-held and gently squeezed in short bursts to make the call. Again in the original box, the lid has some small dents on the top, and an instruction slip is underneath the leather pouch.
