Removed from a country property near Cork in Southern Ireland, these wonderful plaster decorative folded Acanthus leaves  date  from c.1880 when the house was built.- these are Ornamental Embellishment used within the coving of the main reception room. Acanthus leaves have been used in architectural detail since the fifth century BC. The leaves appear on elaborate capitals, or tops of columns, on a style of Greek column known as Corinthian. The Romans adopted acanthus leaves in the design for an even more elaborate style of capital called Composite, where the leaves were mixed with larger ram's horn curls and other elements. 
The four we have on offer have been carefully removed and only one shows a headline crack but is still fine to use. They could very easily used on any new project and can pe affixed with any appropriate adhesive. to ceilings, walls or furniture..
They are each 6" / 150mm high, 5" / 130mm wide, 1" / 25mm deep and weighs 150grms
