Antique Taxidermy Diorama - Antique Irish - Confrontation between an Ermine / Stoat and a Red Squirrel on Oak - Stunning Item - TQ1-XI
A very striking example of Antique Irish Taxidermy - from the Victorian period, a tableau showing a confrontation between an Ermine and a Red Squirrel on a tree trunk. The squirrel appears to be the more surprised of the two - the Mink has been hiding in a hole in the trunk and is rising with his teeth bared, ready for a fight. Extremely well posed and professionally mounted this is a real talking piece deserving of a prime viewing position. It is extremely heavy as the animals are posed on a piece of solid Irish Oak. There is a very strong metal fixing in the wood to allow for wall mounting, though it can equally be freestanding. A superb, natural piece of Antique Taxidermy from Ireland.
This is an ex-viewing piece from a private school in Southern Ireland; having been in the biology department for may years, impressing children, it is now ready to move on to a real home and any collector of antique taxidermy would be very proud to include it in a private setting. Southern Ireland was and still is, a stronghold of the Red Squirrel. Standing at 9" or 22.5cm high and 16" or 41cm wide and 8.5" or 22cm deep, this piece weighs about 2.2kg without any packing so the shipping accounts for a substantial portion of the price.
Your item will be carefully packed using recycled wrappings where possible and despatched via the Irish An Post. The PRICE INCLUDES TRACKED SHIPPING.
