A Pair of Antique French Furniture Pediments - Two Swan Dragons drinking from a Two Headed Fountain in the Rococo Style - D3/117d

An absolutely stunning pair of French Rococo Gilt Bronze pediments or decorative panels. These have been sand-cast in the first half of the eighteen hundreds (the nineteenth Century). Beautifully designed, the centre of each pediment features a fountain pouring liquid in to a large basin - the liquid is pouring from the mouth of a central figure - a two headed Janus spouting water to each side. At the basin of the fountain, at each side a swan-like figure with a collared neck is taking a drink - with the Swans designed as Dragons: wings aloft and great curling bodies behind. With swags and flourishes and leaves and flowers - a gorgeous piece of sculpture.

The pair have been sand-cast and filed by hand; the gilt is still vivid in places, especially on the back where it has been protected. There are four holes in each one for nails or screws to hold the panels in place.  Very unusual, highly decorative.  Superb items for creating classical French décor or the aura of a French Chateau.
The measurements are 2.5" x 13.5" x 0.25" (6 x 34 x 1cm).  The pair together with no packaging weigh 600 grams.

This is a classical item of over 150 years in age; we have not cleaned it with any products, just a light wash - and the patina remains intact with a golden gleam here and there where areas have been rubbed. If desired, it could be polished to a bright shine.

Plus.

A pair of Antique French Gilt Bronze Plaques or Furniture Pediments, fashioned in the Rococo or Late Baroque style depicting a Lidded Urn with swags at the handles, draping over the front. The Urn stands on a Plinth from which Laurel Leaves swirl out at each side.  Below the plinth, an arrangement of Acanthus Leaves hangs down.  Beautifully cast in solid bronze and then gilded, these date from the mid 1800s in France. They came from the Loire Valley area, where the great Loire River is lined with the fabulous chateaux that belonged to Royalty and the wealthy bourgeoisie before the French Revolution. These lovely accessories have the patina of time with wear showing to the gilt on the face of each pediment which brings out the moulding features.

A beautiful and bespoke decorator's piece.........a great interior design item for a home stylist, remodeller or anyone wanting to make classical renovations to their furniture. Such stylish antique items from France will surely add a wonderful and romantic statement in their eventual home. At the top and bottom of each, there is small hole to allow for fixing. These pediments have a gentle curve, rising 0.75" or just under 2cm in 6.75" or 17cm. They would be ideal for a plush, padded or curved furnishing item. Excellent finishing accents to uplift a furnishing makeover.

In completely original condition with the patina of age, they measure 6.75" or 17cm wide and are 4" or 10cm high. THEY ARE GENTLY CURVED. The pair weigh 275 grammes.
Please take care to check sizes as some sites describe items as 'huge' when they can can be quite small.
