Unique Collection of Six Antique Hand Coloured Watercolour / Gouache Military Prints - Pierre Albert Leroux 1890-1959 - MT2/20

A unique and exciting collection of six antique hand-coloured images by Pierre Alter Leroux, 1890 to 1959 - a French artist and illustrator. These antique paintings are on rough-cut, very thick paper and have brightly coloured painted images of French military personnel from the 1800's through to the end of World War One in 1918. (Leroux famously painted "The Cockle Pickers", a sandy beach scene).  These paintings were part of an inheritance that was sold as they were not of interest to the beneficiary.

The earliest image is of Royal Musketeers; and on the back, written in pencil: "The Royal Troublemakers - 17th Century" (Les Fauterie Royale XVII Siecle)
The next would be the brightly coloured soldier with a very long bayonetted rifle; on the back in pencil: "French Guards, 18th Century" (Gardes Françaises 18 Siecle)
Three paintings follow that are related to WW1: a group of soldiers resting around a fire; a parade of soldiers with French Horns flags; a group of soldiers on cycles.
The final painting shows the return of soldiers and on the back in pencil: (XX) Infantry of the Victory 1918 ((XX) Infanterie de la Victoria 1918)

Each of the images is a work of art in its own right and together the collection would be a fantastic addition to a collector of all things military, or for someone who studies and appreciates Military Uniforms or Military Art. The pages are roughly cut and the size is 13" high by 10" wide approximately (33cm x 25cm); the sizes vary slightly. They are all unframed.
