Original French Mid Century Art - Young Parisian Belle - Artist Signed T H Randoin - Original French Oil on Board - AP1/36 DS

A superb Mid-Century original oil painting by the well known French Artist T. H. Randoin. Painted in the 'style or school' of Jean Gabriel Domergue, the works of T H Randoin come up very occasionally - but when they do they are priced at around €1000 and more. This original painting is in oil on board and depicts a blonde Parisian Girl in the "Pin Up" style. The Randoin  paintings of pretty young women are sometimes referred to as "Parisian Belle in a Kitsch Style". With her distinctive masses of long, curly blonde hair, this particular pin-up girl was a  favoured sitter for this artist, and there is currently a second oil painting of the same female model in a slightly different pose on the market.

T.H. Randoin painted "aupres" Jean Gabriel Domergue (1889-1962), who redefined the image of feminine beauty with his paintings of elegant Parisian women. Domergue studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was only 17 when he first exhibited at the 1906 Salon des Artistes Français. He became famous in the ’20s for painting a new type of casual, confident Parisian lady that deviated from traditional feminine tropes. With her long, slender neck, thin frame, and coquettish gaze, Domergue’s Parisienne epitomized the look of the decade and is considered to be the precursor of the pinup that became famous in American Art.

Domergue was born in Bordeaux and claimed to be "the inventor of the pin-up". He also designed clothes for the couturier Paul Poiret. From 1955 until 1962 he was the curator of the Musée Jacquemart-André, organising exhibitions of the works of Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Goya and others. Domergue was appointed a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. He died 16 November 1962 on a Paris sidewalk.

This original work would make a superb focal point in a room. Recently reframed in a sumptuous, deep golden wooden frame, the framed measurements are 16" or 41cm high and 13.5" or 34cm wide, 2" or 5cm deep with the painted image 9.5" or 24cm high by 7" or 18cm wide. It has silver metal fixings for hanging screwed into the back of the frame. The picture including the frame but without any packaging weighs 1kg or 2.2lb.

In overall good condition, there is a small area of slight flaking; this could go into our workshop for restoration if desired although we would recommmend that it be left as is as part of its history - however the choice is for the buyer to make.
