Bronzed Spelter Christ on Cream Art Deco Crucifix - 11.75"- French 1920s - Wall Hanging French Crucifix - RC146
This is a true Art Deco piece in every way. The inlaid cream Bakelite is subtly marbled and the crucifix is designed in an unusual sunburst style with dark wood string design. The actual base cross appears to be light oak. The Corpus has been gilded with a golden bronze that only shows small signs of wear. There is a small crack to the inlay at the top ( see photos ) where the rear fixing must have come loose and longer pins were used to try and reattach it. It still bears the Maker's paper label on the back for 'S R D'. Unfortunately we have not been able as yet to find any details of this maker but will keep trying.
The wooden cross with inlay is 11.75" / 30cm in height, 6.75" / 17cm in width. The body of Christ is 5" / 12.5cm high and 3.5" / 9cm wide the depth is 1.25" / 3cm; the total weight is 200g without any packaging.
