A fabulous bag, made Mid-Century but as they say - "Bang on Trend". This leather bag was made in France in the late 1940's as a Fishing or Game bag and has some really handy features. It closes with a heavy unfinished leather flap which lifts to reveal a string pouch. The pouch is the full width of the bag and it is stitched to the bag on one side and the opening side is bound with a leather strap. The pouch itself is made from two-coloured, strong string and is made from knotting - a macramé bag. Behind the macramé bag is a canvas covered pocket that has a waterproof interior; behind this is the inside of the bag proper. Made from thick leather, the bag a stitched all around and the back is joined to the front flap with a reinforced stitched leather strip.
The handle starts with leather, sewn to the sides of the bag then a metal 'D' ring joins to an adjustable strap - this strap is made from webbing with a leather trim at each end where it attaches to the 'D' rings. The D rings are old, chrome rings and have pitting. The Strap has a metal adjusting band - this may be brass, as it shows oxidisation.
The bag has been well used and has not been mistreated. There are no holes in the macramé; the leather shows signs of handling and wear and the web strap has faded. The bag is in completely original 'as found' condition, so a good clean and some love and attention from the new owner will make it look a million dollars. A great unisex size, big enough to fit all daily items plus a tablet or e-reader - this bag really was way ahead of its time when it was made.
Measurements: outside 15.75" across by 10.5" high and expanding depth to around 3" (40 x 26.5 x 7.5 cm).
